Friends of the Blanding Library
It’s time to remind all Friends of the Blanding Library to renew your membership in our Friends organization and to encourage others to join. The Friends is a group of volunteers who support the library and raise funds for extra things that just aren’t in the library’s tight budget. Most recently the Friends bought some much-needed new bookcases for the library. You may join for as little as $5 annually or become a lifetime member with a one-time contribution of $100. Friends’ members will be receiving renewal forms in the mail this month. Please note that the Friends of the Blanding Library is a separate organization from the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society. We encourage all our friends to become members of both organizations.
Volunteer at the Library

News from Rehoboth Head Start
Rehoboth Head Start spent a month-long study theme on pizza. A member of the program’s Fall River-based management team, “Miss Carol” read to the children who later went to work making play dough for their very own pretend pizza shop. The entire classroom participated and learned with math, reading, gross motor, and science information.
With bags of seed donated by Munroe Feed and Supply, the class constructed an 8-foot bird seed pizza outside the classroom window for the animals of winter to enjoy. Although not affiliated directly, the Head Start program is located in the basement of the community center at the Rehoboth Congregational Church.

Parents and families were involved with a Family Pizza night with Head Start staff. Using the ovens in the church’s kitchen, families enjoyed cooking pizzas while the children played pin the nose on the pizza, and sang songs for their families.
The class will soon be conducting their annual Hop-A-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy, and hope to match the donation they made last year, a little of $600. Any one wishing to sponsor our class can send donations to the Rehoboth Head Start, 139 Bay State Road, Rehoboth , MA 02769.
Applications are now being taken for the 2012-13 school year for children 3 or 4 years of age. Younger children can also receive services through Rehoboth Head Start’s home-based program. The program is free for qualifying families of Rehoboth, Dighton, Seekonk and Berkley. Please call the main office in Fall River for more information at 508-675-2151.

Rehoboth Head Start
3rd Annual Hop-A-Thon
The Rehoboth Head Start program will hold their third annual Hop-A-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on April 12. Last spring, with support and donations from area organizations, the children were able to hop their way to making a wonderful donation. The event provides an opportunity to engage in gross motor activities while learning about springtime, bunnies, hopping, math, science, and language. The preschoolers also acquire awareness of the those with disabilities. To support the children of Rehoboth Head Start, please make donations payable to MDA, and send them to Rehoboth Head Start, 139 Bay State Road, Rehoboth, MA, 02769.

Last year we were presented an award for raising over $600 for MDA. Quite an achievement for such a small program.

Scouts Visit Neighboring
Seekonk Fire Dept.
In March, Rehoboth Daisy Troop 750 took a tour of the Seekonk Fire Station where they got to go inside the fire truck, see the ladder extended on the ladder truck, and tour the building. The Daisies were surprised to see that the firemen actually sleep and eat at the station. The firemen went above and beyond duty. The girls were very impressed and had lots of fun!

Hopping for Disability Awareness
The children of the CFC Rehoboth Head Start in Rehoboth held their 4th annual Hop-A-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy last month and raised $629. exceeding their collection efforts last year.
They held hopping activities throughout the month of April and learned about disabilities and Muscular Dystrophy. Of course, they also learned a lot about bunnies. Their learning activities included building towers of bunnies to increase their fine motor skills, matching bunnies and shapes, and doing math with rolling dice and hopping the right number plus adding two numbers together.
The children heard lots of stories about disabilities and even took turns seeing what it was like to use a wheelchair. They played hop scotch, hopped on a ball and blew bunny bubbles.
